West Midlands Combined Authority Signs the Faith Covenant

On Thursday 14th September 2023, faith leaders and local authority representatives from across the West Midlands gathered in Walsall as they became the first combined authority to sign the Faith Covenant.

Andy Street, Mayor of the West Midlands, opened the night with a speech outlining the potential of what further partnership working could accomplish for the region, followed by speeches from Amrick Singh Ubhi, Chair of the West Midlands Faith Strategic Partnership Group, and Daniel Singleton, National Executive Director of FaithAction.

Representatives from Walsall and Sandwell councils subsequently signed the Faith Covenant and Dudley council signalled their intention to sign in the near future. Other councils had already signed the Covenant but recommitted to working together at the regional level. Finally, Andy Street added his signature on behalf of the combined authority, bringing the Faith Covenant to a total of 28 signatory cities and regions.

The rest of the evening included practical discussions around tables about how faith groups might contribute to some of the strategic priorities of the combined authority.

We are delighted to add three new signatories to the Faith Covenant group and look forward to seeing the practical outworking of this new partnership for the people of the West Midlands.
